effects of antihypertensives in people with diabetes
What are the effects of antihypertensives in people with diabetes?
Beneficial
Angiotensin-converting enzyme inhibitors
Diuretics
Likely to be beneficial
Angiotensin II receptor antagonists (reduce cardiovascular events compared with beta-blockers)
Beta-blockers (similar reduction in cardiovascular and microvascular events to angiotensin-converting enzyme inhibitors, but may cause weight gain and increase the need for glucose-lowering therapy)
Calcium channel blockers (similar reduction in cardiovascular events to diuretics but less effective than angiotensin-converting enzyme inhibitors)
Unknown effectiveness
Alpha-blockers
